Description Job Summary The Assistant Liturgy Intern is responsible for assisting the Liturgy Intern, primarily with coordinating liturgical ministers and administrative duties for RCIA and Confirmation classes. The Assistant Liturgy Intern reports to the Associate Chaplain and operates with some latitude and discretion, requiring the use of independent judgment and initiative. The position is for the spring 2025 academic semester. Ministerial Character The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of University Catholic Center which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church. Essential Job Duties As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of University Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed. Assist with scheduling and managing of liturgical ministers for Sunday and daily Mass, major solemnities, and other liturgical events, particularly tracking and following up with no‑shows. Assist in the administration of RCIA and Confirmation classes by tracking attendance and managing signups. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Knowledge of the scheduling software Ministry Scheduler Pro. Skill in managing details. Skill in crafting messages to student volunteers that balances tact and a call to responsibility. Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality. Ability to work collaboratively with the Liturgy Intern and student volunteers. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques. Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to follow instructions in verbal or written format. Ability to effectively use standard office communication technology. Minimum Qualifications Education and Trainings High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency. Current student at UT Austin for the 2025-2026 calendar year. Experience Scheduling liturgical ministers Coordinating liturgies Language English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing) Catholic Requirement Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing. Licenses/Certifications Valid Texas driver’s license. Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period. Working Conditions Schedule flexibility: it is expected that this position will average 5-7 hours per week (with some exceptions requiring more time, including Holy Week, some solemnities, and major liturgical events). Working in a fast‑paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly. Working on weekends and evenings may be required. Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations. All employees of the University Catholic Center are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Chaplain in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church. The UCC is an at‑will employer.
