Internal Medicine - Physician - Administration

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) is seeking an exceptional physician-candidate for the position of Associate Chief of Staff – Ambulatory Care (ACOS-AC). The ACOS-AC will work as a member of executive leadership, assisting the Deputy Chiefs of Staff with many of the VHA clinical and administrative directives to ensure they are appropriately translated into relevant local policies and appropriately executed. The ACOS-AC works with peers in multiple clinical and administrative service lines across multiple locations, to ensure integrated goals and priorities for the ACOS-AC are achieved.

Work Schedule : Monday - Friday 8:00- 4:30pm.

Duties include, but not limited to:

• Participates in top management discussions, decisions, policy making, and provides program direction to other executives, managers, and assigned personnel.
• Provides input, advice and counsel for total Medical Center planning, programming, budgeting, and general administration.
• Formulates policies and operating procedures, ensuring compliance with VA regulations, statutes and the standards and requirements of various internal and external review bodies.
• Coordinates and expands use of all pertinent resources available for patient care, develops extensive community relationships/partnerships with individuals and with health, social, and welfare agencies.
• Provides program direction and guidance to subordinate staff, effectively delegating authority and responsibility needed in order to carry out assigned tasks.
• Plans and directs the administrative and technical aspects of personnel management, coordinating such functions through subordinate managers.
• Ensures staff receives required and appropriate initial orientation, in-service training, and professional continuing education.
• Manages quality assurance, practices lean management and guarantees improvement activities for all programs to ensure compliance with all applicable accrediting organizational standards.

Qualifications:

1. Must be a U.S. Citizen (*If no qualified U.S. Citizen is found, will consider non- citizen candidates*)
2. Full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State
3. MD/DO degree and Board certification in any specialty
4. Demonstrated administrative and leadership experience
5. Must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and committed to the care and good health of our Veterans

We offer:

1. Starting salary of $250,000-$350,000
2. Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
3. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
4. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
5. CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
6. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
7. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
