Equipment Operator

Responsible for the safe operation of aluminum processing and material handling equipment in our Rolling Mill or Finishing departments. Responsibility includes ensuring safety, quality and productivity goals are met while minimizing downtime. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Setting up rolling mills or slitters for runs 2. Monitoring runs of aluminum for quality, quantity, and customer specifications 3. Changing rolls and assisting other operators with roll changes and threading 4. Keeping work areas clear of trash, scrap aluminum or other debris 5. Safely operate material handling equipment including but not limited to forklifts and overhead cranes 6. Assist maintenance team with diagnosis and troubleshooting issues with the mill or slitter 7. Understands production schedules, roll changes, changeovers 8. Ability to operate of lockout points 9. Demonstrate continuous improvement with production run times 10. Performs banding of scrap bins 11. Assists with preventative maintenance on slitters and mills 12. Maintain accurate and complete records of production runs and activities through manual and electronic systems 13. Follow operational job safety analysis (JSAs) on plant equipment; contribute to improvements to procedures and collaborate on new JSAs based on observations and experiences 14. Effectively communicate with all levels of staff, work independently or as a team, and strive to promote a safe and efficient working environment by contributing to and participating in continuous improvement initiatives 15. Support the plant in strategic business improvement activities that will focus on improving safety, quality, delivery, and productivity with a results-oriented approach. 16. Work closely with production teams to optimize rolling and other manufacturing processes to enhance product quality and efficiency. 17. Complete assigned tasks in accordance with government codes and regulations, safety, quality control, company programs and procedures. 18. Other duties as assigned. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum of high school diploma, some college preferred 2. Proven experience in manufacturing, preferably in the aluminum industry or metal processing sector using a forklift and overhead crane 3. Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend written and spoken instruction as well as complete accurate documentation in written or computer formats 4. Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations including reading a tape measure, and convert to decimals or other forms of measurement 5. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team 6. Effective communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and concisely 7. Adaptable to change 8. Willingness to learn 9. Ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, changing work environment 10. Work with limited supervision, self-driven 11. Commitment to a high standard of safety, and dedication to following industry safety regulations 12. Ability to use basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and other data entry applications EQUIPMENT T OPERATOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment. Physical conditions for positions: Sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, grasp, ascend/descend stairs, maneuver within tight spaces, routinely lift up to 50 lbs. Must have visual acuity, excellent mobility, good hearing, manual dexterity, good balance, ability to work a minimum of 8 hours, and wear required personal protective equipment. All tasks performed with or without reasonable accommodations. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR WORK ENVIRONMENT: Working with and near electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatu es and noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, welding machines, and mobile equipment.
