Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Part-Time, Food Service Technician I position in the Nutrition Services Department under the direct supervision of the Food Service Supervisor I.
The Food Service Technician I in the Nutrition Services Department serves or assists with the preparation of food and beverages; cleans and maintains food service equipment, utensils and all work areas as required; instructs and works with helpers from the patient population.
The incumbent is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings and security areas throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position.
AM Shift: 6:00am 10:00am
PM Shift: 3:30pm 7:30pm
ABILITY TO: Communicate at a level required for successful job performance; grasp, manipulate or assemble objects; accurately portion items when serving food and beverages; actively listen and follow directions and keep simple records (e.g., temperature logs, food and supply ordering sheets); read and follow serving instruction for therapeutic diets; communicate with individuals with varying levels of understanding; monitor and interpret gages, dials and other indicators to ensure sanitation machines are working properly; operate automatic dish washing machine equipment; organize and calculate amount of food products and supplies in stock and make appropriate judgment to identify when supplies are low; physically lift and transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds as necessary; read and follow directions/instructions in English at a level to maintain effective communication with staff, patients; follow proper hand washing procedures as outlined in Infection Control guidelines; proper body mechanics when lifting, reaching, bending and in order to prevent injury.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods of cleaning and preparing foods for cooking and storing food; maintaining food service areas, utensils and equipment; panty work related to inventory and storage of food and supplies; proper use of various types of food service utensils, appropriate for portion control; cleaning and preparing food for cooking and storing; proper methods and techniques of food storage to prevent spoilage.
