Who We Are

Humm Accounting is a small, fast-growing, full-service accounting and tax firm in Fort Collins, CO. We work with entrepreneurial clients and believe that financial clarity can actually feel good, for clients and for the people doing the work. We’re led by a CPA who has done the work himself and understands both the technical side and the entrepreneurial side of building something. His focus is on building the right team and giving them everything they need to do their best work.

We’re intentional about how we grow, investing in automation, AI, and process development to create real efficiencies for our team and our clients. Things move fast here, and that’s by design.

What We’re Offering

This isn’t a job in the traditional sense. It’s a contractor partnership. We bring the clients; you bring the expertise. Right now, we have a full-time-sized book of business ready and waiting for the right person who wants to take it on, so you’re not starting from scratch or spending your time chasing work. You set your own schedule and work how you want.

Longer term, we’re building a team of tax managers, and each one chooses how large a book they want to carry. That means the partnership can grow with you at the pace that fits your life.

We provide the client base, all software and systems access, and an admin and ops team behind you so you’re not navigating everything alone.

If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Maybe I could go out there and do this on my own,” this partnership was built with you in mind. You get the independence, the flexibility, and the ownership of your client relationships, without having to find the clients, build the back office, buy the software, or run the business side. We handle the sales, marketing, systems, and operations. You focus on the work you’re great at.

How the Work Is Structured

You’d own the tax side of our clients’ financial picture, from planning through filing. That includes:

• Preparing and reviewing individual and business returns (1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1120, and related schedules)
• Proactive tax planning and strategy for business owners, including entity structure, estimated payments, and year-end planning
• Multi-state and other complex filings as they come up
• Working with our accounting team so books and tax work stay in sync

Tax work has its own rhythm, and anyone with your experience knows it well. Things get busy around filing deadlines. In the off-season, we shift into building: developing automations, leveraging AI, and creating process documentation to make the work more efficient. It’s also when we invest in being a team, sharing what we’ve learned and improving how we work together. The right person on our team doesn’t just follow systems; they help build and improve them.

Must-Haves

• 10+ years of hands-on tax preparation and advisory experience
• Active CPA or EA credential, with a current PTIN
• Experience with both individual and small-business returns, including S corps and partnerships
• Strong tax planning experience with entrepreneurial clients
• Experience with professional tax and practice-management software, such as Lacerte, UltraTax, DMS, Caseware, and Canopy
• Clear, proactive communication with clients and teammates
• Based within roughly 100 miles of Fort Collins, CO

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with industries like real estate, e-commerce, or professional services
• Interest in automation and process improvement
