About the Role

Step onto a Curtis Contracting, Inc. (CCI) job site and you’ll start your day with precision. As our NCCCO Mobile Crane & Heavy Equipment Specialist, you’ll conduct meticulous pre-shift checks, review the lift plan with your crew, and set up for safe, efficient picks that keep our heavy civil projects moving.

You’ll operate cranes and other heavy machinery in accordance with manufacturer specs and site conditions, executing lifts that align with engineered plans, blueprints, and signal communications. Throughout the shift, you’ll document inspections and operating logs, coordinate with riggers and supervisors, and adjust to changing conditions while maintaining OSHA-compliant practices. When equipment issues arise, you’ll troubleshoot and perform minor fixes, keeping downtime to a minimum.

• Run mobile and crawler cranes and support equipment safely and precisely to lift, move, and position materials.
• Complete daily walk-arounds and safety inspections; maintain accurate inspection, maintenance, and operating records.
• Interpret lift plans, blueprints, sketches, and written directives to determine proper setup, placement, and sequencing.
• Collaborate with signal persons and supervisors to coordinate hoisting activities and traffic on site.
• Assist with rigging, load securement, and signaling; follow established rigging and hoisting procedures.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions and perform minor repairs or adjustments when needed.
• Operate additional heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, and forklifts as project needs dictate.
• Champion safety standards and OSHA requirements to reduce incidents and protect your team.

• Current NCCCO crane operator certification.
• Hands-on experience developing, understanding, and executing lift plans.
• Proven proficiency with mobile cranes, crawler cranes, excavators, bulldozers, and forklifts.
• Deep knowledge of crane/heavy equipment safety protocols and procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical documentation.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
• Physical stamina for lifting, bending, and extended standing.
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Experience supporting work around bridge structures.

• Background in construction or industrial environments.
• Additional heavy equipment or rigging certifications.
• Familiarity with computerized crane control systems.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance procedures.

This role is outdoors and physical—expect changing weather, loud noise, vibration, and occasional exposure to hazardous materials. Proper PPE is provided and must be worn at all times.
