Sr. Process Engineer (Pulp & Paper) - Raleigh, NC

S&B is currently seeking a Process Engineer to support our Raleigh, NC team. Must be fully competent in performing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of independent judgment for the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation of standard process engineering methods and procedures. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers or specialists.

EDUCATION

Normally requires at least a four‑year degree in Chemical Engineering and/or Pulp and Paper Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a minimum of 10-20 years’ experience in Process/Design Engineering or related functional area (or equivalent working knowledge/experience). This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design tools. Some experience working in a Paper Mill environment is preferred. Significant experience as a lead process engineer on capital projects is required. Registration as a licensed professional engineer is highly preferred (or be willing to obtain registration). Design engineering experience with the following: Material Handling – chipping, feeders, screening, washing, conveying, storage, stack/reclaim. Recycled Fibers – material handling, screening, cleaning, rejects handling, agglomeration, dispersion, flotation, chemical systems, water systems. Pulping & Bleaching – cooking, mechanical, washing, screening, blow heat & NCG, causticizing, bleaching, safety. Papermaking – stock prep, paper machines, additives, finishing, roll handling for grades (liner, medium, coated board, printing/writing, recycled, pulp machines). Power & Recovery – recovery boiler, power boiler, turbines, feedwater systems, cooling towers, evaporators, concentrators, environmental. Specific Preferences: WinGEMS process modeling TAPPI paper machine drive studies Headbox replacement project experience

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Meets with clients’ technical staff to develop acceptable processes and control features. Conducts field trips to existing plants to gather operating data and equipment information. Prepares equipment specifications. Communicates process design to client and other design disciplines. Participates in process safety reviews. Prepares operations instruction manuals. Participates in preparation of contract proposals.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles. #J-18808-Ljbffr S&B
