Responsibilities Assist the Port Engineer and Captain(s) in conducting maintenance activities on company vessels and vehicles, document all activities, and provide ongoing support to the fleet with a focus on safety, comfort, and cost. Assist the Port Engineer and Captain(s) with service to the boat and vehicle fleet, ensuring long‑term guest safety, comfort, and cost efficiency. Assist the Port Engineer and/or Transportation Coordinator to help ensure vessels and vehicles comply with US Coast Guard and US Department of Transportation standards. Manage the Phoenix Avenue warehouse, including petroleum storage, tool storage, and general security. Coordinate with Boat Captains, Land Facilities Maintenance Technician, and Transportation Coordinator to ensure timely disposal of waste products, particularly used oil collection. Operate the new and used oil collection and distribution program, including vessel oil sampling, oil changes, and filter inventory management. Coordinate with the Land Facilities Maintenance Technician to maintain the Phoenix Avenue warehouse with safety and functionality in mind. Assist the Port Engineer in managing parts inventory, tracking, and organizing supplies. Assist with land facilities maintenance as required. Skills & Abilities Basic understanding of diesel and gas internal combustion engines. Foundational knowledge of plumbing, AC/DC electrical systems, and vehicle maintenance. Familiarity with marine propulsion and control systems is an asset. Basic fabrication and carpentry skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, especially for parts and record‑keeping tasks. Ability to learn quickly and take direction in a team environment. Problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach to maintenance. Ability to operate small heavy equipment required to maintain fleet and land facilities. Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude. Commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Physical Abilities Physical ability to climb ladders, crawl, kneel, bend, twist at the waist, and stand on uneven surfaces; must be able to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds on a regular basis; enter and operate in confined spaces; operate power tools; operate in an environment with breathing apparatus; operate company vehicles. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Technical training or certification in marine, automotive, or a related field is an asset. Previous hands‑on experience with engines, mechanical systems, or maintenance work preferred. Basic parts inventory experience. Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card. Experience in hospitality, tourism, or attractions environments is a plus. Work Environment This role operates in a marine and maintenance setting, working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The Assistant Port Engineer collaborates closely with engineers, operations staff, and occasionally guest‑facing teams to support seamless operations in a fast‑paced, hands‑on, and team‑oriented environment.
