Child and Youth Program Assistant

Summary CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the Child and Youth Program (CYP). They help children develop social skills, make healthy choices, build self‑help and school readiness skills, and explore their environment. Salary $21.55 – $24.90 per hour. You may qualify for a $1,000 cash award and 8 hours of time off after 6 months, and the same after 12 months. Location Annapolis, MD. 2 vacancies. Duties Curriculum : Develop, review, and implement schedules and activity plans, ensuring the needs of individual children are incorporated. Indoor & Outdoor Environment : Prepare, arrange, and maintain activity areas; set up displays and bulletin boards; inventory and replenish supplies. Interactions & Relationships : Create a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with peers. Supervision of Children and Youth : Provide care and supervision, maintain control of whereabouts, supervise daily activities and field trips, and report any signs of illness, abuse, or neglect. Parent and Employee Communication : Interact professionally, provide daily feedback to parents, and participate in conferences. Assessment : Observe developmental progression, document concerns, and use information for planning. Compliance : Assist in maintaining DoD certification and ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Additional Responsibilities : Collect and report program participation data and perform other related duties as assigned. Conditions of Employment Must be 18 years of age or older. Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications required by Federal, State, or national accreditation institutions. Pass all applicable background checks. Undergo pre‑employment and random drug testing; a positive drug test results in removal. Pass a pre‑employment physical and provide evidence of immunization. Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at the time of application. Must be a U.S. citizen or hold 3 years of lawful U.S. residency. Position is a Test Designated Position (TDP) and requires pre‑employment and random drug testing. Qualifications Entry Level (CY‑1702‑01) : Effective communication in English, ability to follow instructions, complete DoN training, foster working relationships, and work cooperatively as a team member. Intermediate Level (CY‑1702‑01) : Entry level skills plus knowledge of child and youth development principles, implementation of developmentally appropriate practices, ability to interpret curriculum, plan and organize, and 6 months of experience working with children or youth. Target Level (CY‑1702‑02) : Entry and Intermediate skills plus advanced knowledge of development principles, ability to provide high‑quality direct care, skill in establishing effective relationships, one year of experience, and either completion of DoD standardized training, CDA/MSA credential, or a 2‑year degree in an early childhood related field. Education Must provide a copy of your high‑school diploma, GED, or college transcript when you apply. Entry Level: High‑school diploma or equivalent, 18 years or older. Intermediate Level: 6 months of experience and completion of Navy Entry Level training or equivalent. Target Level: 1 year of experience and one of the following credentials: DoD standardized training courses, CDA/MSA credential, or a 2‑year degree in an early childhood related field.
