The Production Control Specialist maintains accurate production data, monitors work-in-process, supports inventory accuracy, and proactively identifies opportunities to improve production flow, scheduling, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and manage production schedules to support customer delivery commitments, capacity requirements, and operational objectives.

  • Review Bills of Material (BOMs) and develop production travelers, organizing work into logical subassemblies or manufacturing sequences when appropriate.
  • Verify material availability prior to releasing jobs and coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to resolve delivery issues or material shortages.
  • Monitor and control the flow of materials between inventory, staging, and production areas to prevent shortages, delays, and disruptions.
  • Track work-in-process (WIP) and provide timely visibility into production status, priorities, bottlenecks, and schedule adherence.
  • Release jobs to production based on material availability, labor capacity, production priorities, and sequencing requirements.
  • Monitor production progress through regular shop floor presence to assess build status, material availability, inventory, floor utilization, and production priorities.
  • Support inventory accuracy through ERP transactions, cycle count activities, inventory reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Monitor inventory levels for stocked and non-stocked materials and coordinate replenishment activities with the appropriate departments.
  • Review remaining materials upon job completion and coordinate appropriate disposition, including transfers to inventory, supplier returns, reassignment to future jobs, or resolution of shortages.
  • Collaborate with planning, purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, inventory, and shipping teams to align daily production activities and ensure efficient operational execution.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination across multiple facilities, departments, and functional teams as needed.
  • Maintain accurate data within ERP/MRP systems, including job status updates, material consumption, inventory transactions, and production completion reporting.
  • Analyze production performance and identify scheduling conflicts, material constraints, capacity limitations, and process inefficiencies; recommend practical solutions to minimize production disruptions.
  • Assist in evaluating production flow and shop layout to optimize floor space utilization and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Prepare and organize production documentation, drawings, specifications, and related information to support internal manufacturing or external suppliers as needed.
  • Support production ramp-ups, new product introductions, and business growth initiatives by establishing effective production control processes and operational discipline.
  • Generate and maintain reports related to production schedules, inventory status, work orders, and key operational metrics.
  • Promote adherence to company policies, quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing best practices.
Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in production control, manufacturing planning, scheduling, inventory control, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience reading and interpreting Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, inventory control, material planning, and manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
