About the Agency: East Mississippi State Hospital is a comprehensive state-operated psychiatric facility located in Meridian, Mississippi, serving individuals across the region with acute and long-term behavioral health needs. About the Position: This position is responsible for delivering barbering and cosmetology services in a safe, sanitary, and professional manner while supporting the dignity, hygiene, comfort, and overall well-being of patients, residents, and other individuals served across EMSH programs. The Barber/Cosmetologist maintains a clean and organized work area, ensures tools and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized, monitors supplies and inventory, and follows applicable safety, infection control, and facility procedures. In a healthcare environment, this position must work effectively with nursing, direct care, and other staff while demonstrating patience, professionalism, and sensitivity when serving individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or physical limitations.
What you'll need to be Successful: To be successful in this role, the employee must demonstrate strong barbering or cosmetology skills, professionalism, patience, and the ability to provide personal care services in a safe and respectful manner. The employee should be able to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, manage supplies and equipment effectively, and work cooperatively with nursing, direct care, and other staff. Success in this position also requires sensitivity to the needs of individuals served, attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to supporting hygiene, dignity, and quality of care across East Mississippi State Hospital.
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a current state license to practice as a barber or cosmetologist. Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing barbering or cosmetology services in healthcare, residential, long-term care, or institutional setting is preferred. Experience working with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or physical limitations is also preferred.
