Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - GI Medical Oncology

Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Gastrointestinal (GI) Medical Oncology department. Our team of medical oncologists, scientists, physician assistants, and research nurses treat gastrointestinal malignancies, including cancers of the liver, bile duct, gallbladder, pancreas, large and small bowel, stomach, esophagus and rare tumors. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. Prior GI experience or internal medicine/ transplant experience preferred. The hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. Salary Range: $117,500 - $146,500 - $176,500 Benefits Paid employee medical benefits (zero premium) starting on first day for employees who work 30 or more hours per week. Key Functions Medical/Clinical Knowledge Demonstrate knowledge that includes an understanding of pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, patient management, surgical principles, health promotion, and disease prevention. Demonstrate an investigatory and analytic thinking approach to clinical situation: including management of general medical and surgical conditions to include understanding, indication, contraindication, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities. Counsel and educate patients and their families about disease and illness in addition to providing health care services and education aimed at preventing health problems or maintaining health. Practice-Based Learning and Improvement Participate in processes to assess, evaluate, maintain and improve their patient care practices. Demonstrate knowledge of scientific studies related to their patient’s health problems. Professionalism Committed to collaborative professional relationships with physicians and all members of the health care team. Demonstrate a high level of responsibility, ethical practice, sensitivity to the patient population and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Demonstrate a commitment to excellence and on‑going professional development. Systems-Based Practice Demonstrate an awareness of and responsiveness to the larger system of health care to provide patient care that is cost‑effective and demonstrates resources allocation that does not compromise quality of care. Advocate for quality patient care and assist patients in dealing with system complexities. Education Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Physician Assistant Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. Experience At least 1 year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. Prior GI or Internal Medicine / Transplant experience. Licensure / Certification Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100). MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. Physician Assistant PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100). This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
