Veterans Academic Counselor

DESCRIPTION

We are accepting applications for the Veterans Academic Counselor Adjunct Applicant Pool. Part‑time faculty positions are as needed and do not accrue rights to tenure. They offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of students in achieving their educational goals.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

College of the Canyons is seeking adjunct counseling faculty members in the Veterans Resource Center. Applications will be considered for immediate and future eligibility into the Veterans Academic Counselor Adjunct Applicant Pool.

SERVICE

Assume leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole. Commitment to serving the needs of the student, department, college, and community. Collaboration across disciplines and utilization of student support resources. Participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities. Work collegially and collaboratively within the college community. Participation in ongoing professional development.

ACADEMIC COUNSELING

Ability to create comprehensive student educational plans that address general education, major, transfer, and career goals identified by students; Ability to create educational plans in strict accordance with Veterans Affairs regulations allowing students to maintain eligibility for military service‑related educational benefits; Ability to work with a diverse student population with specific emphasis on student veterans or active‑duty military personnel; Possess familiarity with college curriculum in the areas of transfer and career education, four‑year institution transfer requirements, college‑to‑college articulation practices, academic planning principles, and student support services. Ability to effectively engage with and facilitate an authentic counseling environment for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Ability to adapt academic counseling practices based on the knowledge of each individual student. Ability to self‑reflect and respond to an evidence‑based assessment of student comprehension. Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the academic counseling process. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of an unexpired California Community College Instructor Credential in Counseling . OR – Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR – Bachelor’s in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR – Equivalent (none accepted) Note: Hiring committees review all complete, qualified application packets. Possession of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Assignments may include Monday through Friday (day and evening), as well as Saturday hours. Adjunct Salary Rate : Starting at $89.24 per hour. (Click HERE to view Academic Adjunct Salary Schedule).
