Radiology Technologist

Involves required on call rotation for evenings, weekend, and holidays.

SUMMARY

The Radiology technologist performs a variety of radiology tests, procedures, and related duties and operates associated diagnostic equipment. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day radiology operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, and radiology related continuing education.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Student technologists approved based on recommendation from accredited radiology program director. CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS Registered ARRT preferred. Student technologists approved based on recommendation from accredited radiology program director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Understand and follow the policies and procedures of the hospital with particular attention to the individual policies and procedures set up within the radiology department. Use dosimeter to monitor employee exposure. Operate x-ray and computed tomography equipment to make diagnostic radiographs of designated body parts under the supervision of a director of radiology, following radiologist protocols. Educate patient on exam preparation to achieve the best diagnostic images. Follow policies regarding lead protective devices. Position and instruct patient for particular examination. Use proper supportive devices and angle boards when needed. Use correct exposure factors to produce diagnostic images. Make proper exposure from behind protective barrier or adequate distance from patient and equipment. Be able to differentiate between diagnostic and repeatable images. Follow protocols for administration of contrast. General knowledge of computers and PACS/EMR for job specific duties.
