Aura is seeking a collaborative, pragmatic, and business-focused Employment & Corporate Counsel to join our legal team. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you will serve as the primary legal advisor on all human resources, talent acquisition, and employment law matters. Additionally, you will support the broader legal function by assisting with key corporate matters, including contract drafting, commercial agreement reviews, and corporate governance.

Key Responsibilities:

Employment & HR Legal Advisory

● Partner closely with the People/HR team and senior leadership to provide actionable, business-oriented legal advice across the entire employee lifecycle (recruitment, hiring, performance management, offboarding, and executive compensation).

● Draft, review, and refine employment-related documents, including offer letters, employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, severance packages, and consultant/independent contractor agreements.

● Monitor, interpret, and advise on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, state pay transparency laws, remote work compliance).

● Oversee and conduct internal workplace investigations in collaboration with HR, ensuring fair, prompt, and compliant resolutions.

● Develop, update, and implement company-wide HR policies, employee handbooks, and workplace guidelines to ensure compliance across all operational jurisdictions.

● Manage outside litigation counsel on employment-related claims, agency charges (EEOC/state equivalents), or disputes as needed.

Corporate & Commercial Support

● Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, SaaS agreements, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and master service agreements (MSAs).

● Provide legal support on cross-functional initiatives, including M&A integration, corporate restructuring, or international expansion as needed.

● Identify legal risks across business operations and propose proactive, scalable solutions that align with business strategy.

Qualifications:

● Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.

● Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.

● 3+ years of relevant legal experience practicing employment law and general corporate law.

Core expertise in employment law, labor regulations, and workplace compliance.

● Experience drafting and negotiating standard commercial contracts.

● Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business advice.

● High degree of discretion, integrity, and sound professional judgment.

● Self-starter mindset capable of managing multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have / Preferred Qualifications:

● Prior law firm experience in an employment, labor, or corporate practice group.

● In-house experience at a high-growth tech, digital health, or SaaS company.

● Familiarity with multi-state employment law considerations in a hybrid or fully remote workplace model.

Pay range for this position is $180,000 - $200,000 but may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location.
