PROGRAM SUPPORT AIDE II

Senior Center Program Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting in the planning and leading of programs for the seniors and the community in the Senior Center programs. Reports to the Program Manager or designee.

Essential Functions

Implements programs and activities for seniors and the community under the supervision of a full-time employee.

Assists senior center staff in tasks needed to institute successful programs.

Assist seniors in registering for daily programs.

Teaches classes and operating programs.

Reports all safety hazards to the immediate supervisor.

Completes all required paperwork with accuracy.

Provides reception services to seniors and the community.

Provides morning kitchen programs for seniors including making refreshments, maintaining inventory, and cleaning of work areas.

Assist individuals with activities of daily living as needed.

Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and the public.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent and 1 year of experience in community services programming, including experience working with a geriatric population; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must possess first aid and CPR certification or obtain within 60 days of hire.

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

Must successfully pass a background screening (may require a Level II screening).

Must be able to work in indoors and/or outdoors, including standing or sitting for long periods of time.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and/or weekends.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of job-related social service programs.

Knowledge of English including spelling, composition, and grammar.

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.

Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner.

Ability to demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged with the public.

Ability to operate and care for equipment to manufacturer's specifications.

Ability to demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with colleagues and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds. May require frequent crouching, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.
