THE POSITIONThese Transportation Construction Inspector positions with the Department of Transportation offer an exciting chance to support safe and dependable highway projects. This role will let you work directly on construction sites while helping ensure that materials and workmanship meet required standards. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis role focuses on inspecting transportation construction activities and verifying that work meets all required codes, plans, and standards. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Project Inspection: Inspect all phases of construction work and assist with checking grades and elevations
- Material Review: Examine concrete, asphalt, drainage materials, and other items used in roadway and bridge projects
- Field Testing: Provide visual compaction tests for soil and aggregate layers
- Project Documentation: Complete diary entries, estimates, calculations, and other project records
- Communication Duties: Work with staff, agencies, legislators, and the public to support project administration
- Progress Tracking: Create sketches, review changes, monitor material quantities, and prepare inspection summaries

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
