Line Cook

Job Summary The Line Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events in a Senior Living/Healthcare environment. The position involves preparing foods using classical cooking techniques, adhering to standardized recipes, maintaining sanitation standards, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities Prepare and cook foods to order, including alacarte items, and operate a grill station as required. Follow recipes and product directions for seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food products. Use kitchen equipment to measure, mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, shred fruits and vegetables, and trim meat, poultry, or fish. Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, and keep production records to plan and requisition supplies. Attend foodborne‑illness in‑service training and apply food‑safety principles to all preparation and sanitation practices. Receive inventory, lift foodstuffs and supplies, and prepare meals for customers with special diets. Take and record temperatures and correct discrepancies. Plate foods according to order with attention to appearance and garnish. Clean, sanitize, and store workstations, equipment, and food according to regulatory rules. Assist with set‑ups, break down, and clean up serving lines and other food areas. Comply with safety and risk‑management policies, attend safety meetings, and participate in hazard assessments. Education and Work Experience Required: High school diploma. Current Food Handler’s Permit required; ServSafe training and state sanitation certificate are beneficial. Desired: 3–4 years of related and advanced food‑service and cooking experience, including experience with basic kitchen equipment and intermediate to advanced knife skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation. Effective verbal and written communication in English with residents and staff. Ability to read and follow written instructions and recipes independently. Basic computer usage skills. Dependable, detail‑oriented, organized, with good follow‑through. Capacity to work under limited supervision and handle multiple tasks. Calm reaction to emergency situations and exhibit patience and compassion toward senior adults. Respectful of residents’ comfort, safety, security, and belongings. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and maintain a neat work area. Complies with dress code and kitchen uniform requirements. Physical Requirements Lift or carry equipment or supplies up to 50pounds; frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, pulling/pushing, and extended walking/standing up to 8hours. May require standing, sitting, twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, or crouching when performing duties. Adequate sight and hearing required.
