Staff Accountant

The Accountant supports the finance department in various accounting functions, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and analysis. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Record journal entries and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial transactions. Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Generate and distribute financial reports to management and other stakeholders as required. Process accounts payable invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payment to vendors. Assist in accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, collections, and reconciliations. Support the budgeting and forecasting process by analyzing historical data, identifying trends, and preparing financial models. Assist in the development of annual budgets, variance analysis, and performance reporting. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, adjustments, and financial statement preparation. Collaborate with auditors during financial audits, providing documentation and explanations as needed. Travel POC for SafeHarbors, Concur, and Program Managers. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule Mon-Fri 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Teams) Zoom, Skype, or Slack communication. Govcon experience is preferred. ERP experience is required. Procas Payroll system preferred. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle) Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience in public accounting or a corporate finance environment. Familiarity with financial analysis tools and techniques. Certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is advantageous. Desire to grow and develop as a valuable member of our accounting team. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees.
