Job Description : Our company's South San Francisco research laboratory is seeking an innovative drug hunter with a strong in vivo background in biology or metabolism to join the cardiometabolic disease department as an Associate Scientist. The candidate will perform experiments in the laboratory with minimal guidance and supervision. Key Responsibilities Establish key assays and model systems suitable for the mechanistic investigation of potential targets and evaluation of therapeutic candidates. Perform in vivo dosing, bleeding, and handling of small laboratory animals. Conduct molecular biology, cellular biology, cell‑based assay, and ex vivo sample processing and analysis. Design, perform, troubleshoot, document, analyze, and interpret assigned research with minimal supervision to support exploratory activities and project‑focused goals. Scour current literature to identify opportunities for new and existing programs. Work independently in executing controlled experiments, analyzing data, and presenting results to the disease area team. Solve complex problems by applying innovative approaches and state‑of‑the‑art technologies. Schedule This role will require weekend work in a shifted work‑week schedule (Tuesday – Saturday / Sunday – Thursday). Qualifications Education : Bachelor's (with 3+ years experience) or Master’s in chemical biology, molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology, biology, or a related scientific discipline. Required Experience and Skills : Experience in target validation, in‑vivo model development, or adipose biology. Experience with handling, dosing (oral, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous), and bleeding small laboratory animals. Experience working with human and pre‑clinical tissues and primary cell lines. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as western blotting and qPCR. Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to work independently in a dynamic team environment. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to explain complex experiments and biological concepts. Scientific curiosity and an analytical mindset with a drive to own and progress projects through the discovery pipeline. Preferred Experience and Skills : Prior industry experience. Experience in target identification, muscle biology, or immunology in the context of metabolic disease. Proficiency in cell biology, cell culture techniques, dosing, in‑vivo models, and primary cell work. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $108,000.00 – $170,100.00. Eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentive if applicable.
