Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as an Engineer II, Validation (Engineering Change Leader) within Engineering Data Management (EDM). On-Site in Hillsboro, OR.

The Engineering Change Leader is responsible for coordinating and leading Engineering Changes for complex scientific instrumentation throughout the sustaining product lifecycle. This position partners closely with Operations Engineering, R&D, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Global Technical Service and other cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate, execute and implement product changes.

This role combines Engineering Change Management leadership with strong mechanical engineering and technical product documentation expertise . The successful candidate will understand mechanical designs, engineering drawings, CAD models, bills of material (BOMs), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and related technical product documentation (TPD), enabling effective collaboration with design engineers and technical review of implemented documentation changes.

The Change Leader coordinates Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), evaluates change scope and impact, establishes priorities, coordinates technical and business inputs, and drives approved changes through execution and implementation.

What you will do

• Lead Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for assigned products and product lines in accordance with the established Engineering Change process.
• Evaluate proposed changes for technical feasibility, scope, risk, product and manufacturing impact, urgency, implementation requirements and cross-functional dependencies.
• Partner with mechanical engineers and other technical subject matter experts to translate proposed designs engineering markups/redlines and requirements into complete and executable Engineering Changes.
• Review mechanical drawings, CAD models, BOM structures and other Technical Product Documentation to understand proposed and implemented product changes.
• Provide technical review of mechanical TPD changes within demonstrated areas of competency and ensure implemented documentation accurately reflects the approved Engineering Change.
• Apply knowledge of GD&T;, engineering drawing practices, mechanical design and manufacturing methods when evaluating and reviewing mechanical product changes.
• Coordinate appropriate technical review by electrical, software, systems, safety, service, quality and other subject matter experts when changes require expertise outside the Change Leader's area of competency.
• Perform and/or coordinate product structure and Where Used impact analysis to identify affected parts, assemblies, documentation, products and sites.
• Coordinate development and approval of implementation plans with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service and other stakeholders.
• Lead cross-functional resolution of complex Engineering Change issues while maintaining clear ownership, communication and accountability.
• Work with Engineering Data Management resources responsible for CAD, drawing, BOM and documentation updates and support effective technical review of completed work.
• Monitor Engineering Change work in process, priorities, milestones and cycle time for assigned product lines.
• Support continuous improvement of Engineering Change processes, tools and interfaces across North American and global teams.
• Develop strong working knowledge of assigned products and become a trusted Engineering Change partner to the engineering teams supporting those products.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant mechanical design and engineering experience.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, product engineering, sustaining engineering, engineering change management or a related high-technology manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing interpretation.
• Demonstrated experience working with 3D CAD models, mechanical drawings, assemblies and Bills of Material (BOMs).
• Experience with Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), configuration/change control or sustaining product engineering.
• Ability to interpret engineering redlines and technical requirements and evaluate whether resulting documentation accurately implements the intended change.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, tolerances and design-for-manufacturability considerations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineers, manufacturing, supply chain, service and business stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional work, resolve ambiguity, establish priorities and drive complex technical activities to completion without direct authority over all participants.
• Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management/Product Data Management systems; Teamcenter experience preferred.
• Experience with complex electromechanical products, capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, analytical instrumentation or scientific instrumentation strongly preferred.
• Experience with scanning electron microscopes (SEM), transmission electron microscopes (TEM), focused ion beam systems or related electron microscopy products is highly desirable.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
