Responsibilities

• The Telemetry Technician is responsible for the continuous observation and interpretation of cardiac rhythms for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
• This role requires high attention to detail, proactive communication with the nursing and medical staff, and strict adherence to hospital safety and compliance standards.
• Provides diligent visual and auditory observation of remote telemetry monitoring equipment for patients in nursing and intensive care units.
• Accurately recognizes and interprets basic ECG rhythms, identifying variations from baseline and potential emergencies.
• Promptly identifies life-threatening situations and initiates emergency protocols immediately.
• Programs computerized monitoring equipment, setting alarm limits according to physician orders or facility protocols.
• Ensures all monitoring equipment is in proper working order; performs basic troubleshooting and enters maintenance requests as needed.
• Utilizes proper body mechanics when positioning patients for electrode application or moving heavy equipment and supplies.
• Verbally reports any rhythm changes or clinical alerts to the assigned nurse via telephone, microphone, or in person.
• Acts as a communication link between physicians, patients, and the healthcare team, utilizing high-level customer service skills.
• Schedules and coordinates diagnostic procedures and follow-up appointments as required.
• Maintains accurate written logs for each patient and ensures telemetry charges are submitted in a timely, efficient manner.
• Utilizes the Hospital Information System (HIS) and personal terminals for data entry and supply ordering.
• Adheres to all hospital policies, including strict HIPAA confidentiality, infection control, and safety standards.
• Works cooperatively with team members to improve unit performance and completes all tasks with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
• Participates in the orientation of new personnel and attends mandatory educational requirements and committee meetings.
• Practices cost-effective resource management and maintains adequate stock levels for telemetry supplies.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while maintaining constant focus on multiple monitors.
• Adheres to assigned schedules, including required overtime, call rotations, and prompt attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support Performance Improvement (ICARE) activities and general unit health.
• Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards

• Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Required
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment while demonstrating well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with the medical staff, patients, families, and visitors.
• Specific hearing abilities required by this job include ability to respond to auditory system alerts.
• Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision both near and far.
• Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
