Senior Equipment Technician

Overview The world’s communications infrastructure depends on semiconductor lasers, and particularly those based on indium phosphide (InP) technology. Coherent’s broad portfolio of InP components includes application-specific Fabry-Pérot lasers, directly modulated lasers (DMLs), tunable lasers, photodiodes for high-speed receivers, and power monitoring. In 2022, we introduced 200 Gbps indium phosphide electro-absorption modulated lasers (EMLs) for high-speed datacenter transceivers, providing customers with advanced, robust, and cost-competitive laser devices for 800G and next-gen 1.6T datacom transceiver designs. Responsibilities Support MOCVD equipment engineer in maintaining InP‑based MOCVD Aixtron growth systems, carrying out routine maintenance of reactors and all support systems. Change chemical sources, maintain vacuum system and robotic wafer handler, perform chamber cleans, and maintain exhaust abatement system. Document procedures, train and certify other equipment technicians in routine maintenance tasks. Log and track machine parameters to detect incipient failures or operational deviations. Participate in maintenance events involving gas cylinder changes, abatement column changes, and process piping and plumbing requiring SCBA and supplied‑air breathing apparatus. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment or process‑related issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production. Collaborate closely with facilities and Epi process engineering for safe and effective operation of MOCVD equipment. Serve on the site Emergency Response Team. Qualifications AA degree with 6‑10 years of experience. SCBA certification and experience maintaining equipment while under supplied air. Minimum 2 years hands‑on experience with maintenance and repair of complex automated semiconductor process equipment. Minimum 2 years hands‑on experience with vacuum equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Skills Strong mechanical aptitude. Systematic and organized work style. Hands‑on, roll‑up‑sleeves attitude. Clear and efficient communication and documentation skills. Team player. Certified or able to obtain Hazmat Technician certification. Working Conditions 5 days per week, 8‑hour weekday work schedule. Fast‑paced environment with multiple simultaneous projects. Physical Requirements Work effectively in cramped conditions while wearing PPE, including supplied‑air breathing apparatus. Manoeuvre and safely handle heavy equipment. Pass yearly physical and SCBA respirator mask fit test for respiratory safety. Safety Requirements All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp.
