Job Description

The Paint Prep Laborer prepares, assembles, and disassembles vehicles for painting and protective coating applications in a fast-paced job shop environment. This role focuses on surface preparation, operation of spray equipment, and basic maintenance of painting tools while following detailed work orders throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble vehicles and related components in preparation for painting.
• Clean, sand, and scuff vehicle surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of paint and coatings.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance on painting equipment to keep tools and machinery in safe, reliable working condition.
• Operate spray guns to apply bed liners and other coatings according to specifications.
• Follow work orders accurately throughout the day to complete tasks in the correct sequence and within required timeframes.
• Work collaboratively with painters, mechanics, installers, and fabricators to support painting, fabrication, installation, and welding activities as needed.
• Assist with time-sensitive projects to help ensure trucks and equipment are completed within customer deadlines.
• Interact professionally with customers in the shop and showroom when needed, including during equipment testing and outdoor duties.
• Support general shop organization and cleanliness in and around paint booths, sand blasting stations, and fabrication areas.

• At least 1 year of prior paint preparation experience.
• Hands-on experience with paint prep activities such as cleaning, sanding, and scuffing vehicle surfaces.
• Ability to safely operate spray guns, sprayers, and paint sprayer equipment.
• Experience working in a painting, mechanical, or assembly environment.
• Ability to read and follow work orders and job instructions accurately.
• Capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented shop environment.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure proper surface preparation and coating quality.

• Experience working with trucks, municipal vehicles, dump trucks, or semi-trucks is beneficial.
• Familiarity with paint booths, sand blasting stations, and mechanical or fabrication stations is an advantage.
• Comfort working on time-sensitive projects with strict deadlines.
• Ability to interact professionally with customers in a showroom or shop setting.
• Willingness to assist with related tasks such as basic fabrication, installation, or welding support as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large job shop with multiple buildings and garages, similar to a truck dealership. The facility includes several paint booths, a sand blasting station, and mechanical and fabrication stations that handle big municipal trucks, dump trucks, and large semi-trucks. You will work closely with painters, mechanics, installers, and fabricators in a fast-paced, team-based environment where many projects are time-sensitive. The front lobby features a showroom, and you may have direct contact and interaction with customers. Some duties take place outdoors, such as testing equipment. Uniforms are supplied, and the shop environment emphasizes practical, hands-on work with a focus on meeting demanding schedules for city and commercial clients.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Crystal, MN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
