Attorney of the Day Legal Services Coordinator (Spanish)

JDC currently has a need for a bilingual Legal Services Coordinator to support the Immigration Department.

The Legal Services Coordinator will be supporting the Attorney of the Day (AOD) Program in providing legal consult and limited scope legal services to unrepresented immigrants appearing before the San Francisco Immigration Court. The AOD program has been providing pro bono legal services to the San Francisco Immigration Court for over 30 years. As the majority of cases in San Francisco are transferred to the Concord Immigration Court in 2026, the Legal Services Coordinator will be essential in helping the AOD program in San Francisco integrate with the Legal Empowerment Initiative (LEI) program at the Concord Immigration Court.

This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of 2 days in person at the JDC office per week and may require the ability to travel to and from the Concord Immigration Court as well as the San Francisco Immigration Court.

The duties and responsibilities commensurate with the role of the AOD Legal Services Coordinator include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:

• Update our online volunteer sign-up platform with the court calendar for Attorneys of the Day (AODs) at the San Francisco Immigration Court and Concord Immigration Court (as needed).
• Monitor the AOD hotline and field questions from callers regarding AOD Program consultations and services; manage AOD voicemail box.
• Complete intakes for callers to the AOD line and schedule remote consultations with volunteer attorneys serving as AOD.
• Coordinate volunteer interpreters to assist AODs during consultations, when necessary.
• Email training materials to training attendees before and after online webinars hosted by the AOD program.
• Update social media pages with events and training webinars hosted by the AOD Program.
• Train AOD Program volunteers on the AOD line and the database for remote consultations.
• Communicate with volunteer attorneys: assist them in signing up to volunteer, provide information about respondents who have previously been evaluated through the program, and field questions.
• Restock and order new materials for the AOD program.
• Enter data collected through the AOD program into a database and spreadsheets to track for follow-up and grant reporting purposes.
• Communicate number of consultations and brief legal filings filed on a monthly basis for grant reporting purposes.
• Field questions from volunteer court observers and coordinate daily court observation.
• Help to conduct follow-up and referral to unrepresented immigrants in court.
• Perform Know Your Rights (KYR) presentations to groups of unrepresented immigrants facing deportation proceedings.
• Interpret for non-Spanish speaking AOD volunteer attorneys.
• Assist with pro se legal filings such as asylum applications, work permit applications, brief motions, and other pro se filings assigned by AOD Program Staff Attorneys.
• Assist JDC attorneys with the preparation and filing of applications for relief.
• Assist with the transition of AOD services from the San Francisco Immigration Court to the Concord Immigration Court.
• Provide support to the Concord Immigration Court’s Legal Empowerment Initiative (LEI) in order to provide legal services for Respondents with hearings previously held at the San Francisco Immigration Court.

Education:

Associate’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and expertise, and familiarity with immigration law, including immigration court, asylum, and deportation, and working with immigrant populations.

Skills & Requirements:

• Experience working with immigrant populations
• Familiarity with immigration law, asylum, and removal defense
• Experience in public relations and community partnership building
• Experience with analyzing and presenting data, trends, and statistics
• Experience with managing multi-media content, including social media
• Experience with data entry/record-keeping
• Confident using Microsoft Excel and Word, Outlook, MS Access, Adobe Acrobat PDF and PowerPoint
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
