Position OverviewOur organization is seeking qualified Internal Medicine physicians for a full-time academic faculty role within the Division of Hospital Medicine. This position is pivotal in the development and enhancement of a specialized Gut Failure Program , aimed at providing coordinated, high-quality care for patients facing severe gastrointestinal issues, short bowel syndrome, and intricate surgical or medical requirements.

Practice Structure50% Specialized Gut Failure / 50% Hospital Medicine
This role presents a well-rounded clinical portfolio that merges focused subspecialty work with general inpatient medicine:
50% Dedicated Gut Failure Service: Deliver direct medical care for patients with gut failure and complex GI conditions, create clinical pathways, and lead program development and quality enhancement initiatives.
50% Core Academic Hospital Medicine: Participate in standard inpatient hospitalist rotations, ensuring a comprehensive internal medicine skill set.
Interdisciplinary Care: Collaborate with General Surgery, Gastroenterology, APPs, nursing, clinical nutrition, psychology, and social work to co-manage complex gut failure patients.
Program Development: Assist in creating clinical models, standardized care pathways, and operational processes for the new service line.
Clinical Spectrum: Oversee high-acuity cases such as short bowel syndrome, intestinal failure, complex enterocutaneous fistulas, abdominal wall reconstructions, complicated pancreatitis, and GI hemorrhage.
Academic & Safety Initiatives: Lead quality improvement (QI) projects aimed at enhancing clinical outcomes and patient safety; engage in clinical education, mentorship for residents/fellows, and scholarly activities.

Required:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
Possession of an active Georgia medical license (or eligibility to obtain one).
Proven track record of effective teaching, supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration in an inpatient environment.
Preferred:
Clinical experience in a high-acuity academic medical center.
Prior experience or a strong interest in complex GI care, surgical co-management, or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) management.
Experience in clinical program development, quality improvement, or medical education.
