Obtains required patient documents from in-house patients or appropriate representatives. Creates accurate good faith estimates to maximize upfront cash collections and add collection documentation as needed. Maintains schedule flexibility and arranges continual coverage of assigned workstations to promptly assist customers. Properly identifies patients to ensure armband accuracy, inputs demographic information, and secures required forms for compliance. Supports registration staff during peak times to ensure timely processing of patients through system protocols. Screens and directs faxes, document copies, and assists in obtaining patient prescriptions when applicable. Reviews physician orders and scripts to verify patient information and clinician signatures. Directs customers to the appropriate area within departments, and assesses the lobby periodically to meet patient and visitor needs. Manages clerical duties and assigned projects, supports daily operational flow, and monitors timely account classification related to insurance reimbursements. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA privacy rules and adroit ability to use discretion when discussing patient related information that is confidential in nature [Required] Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and database programs [Required] Ability to operate general office machines, such as, computers, facsimiles, copiers, and scanners [Required] Ability to effectively learn and perform multiple tasks and organize work in a systematic and efficient fashion [Required] Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing [Required] Ability to be responsive to ever-changing matrix of hospital needs and act accordingly [Required] Ability to follow complex instructions and procedures with close attention to detail [Required] Self-motivator and quick thinker [Required] Utilizes strong customer service skills with a pleasing personality that puts people at ease [Required] Ability to handle difficult and angry people with compassion, tact, and diplomacy [Required] Ability to perform general clerical and reception activities in a professional manner [Required] Typing skills of 20 words per minute [Required] Knowledge of computer programs, such as Cerner [Preferred] Basic knowledge of medical terminology [Preferred] Exposure to insurance benefits; ability to decipher insurance benefit information [Preferred] Bilingual in English and Spanish [Preferred] Education: Associate [Preferred] Field of Study: in Health Services Work Experience: 1+ customer service experience [Required] Additional Information: Licenses and Certifications: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) [Preferred] Physical Requirements: Please click the link below to view work requirements Physical Requirements - Pay Range: $16.14 - $25.83 Background Screening Requirement (Florida Law) Certain positions are subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting, as required by state law.
