This phlebotomist position offers hands-on experience in an outpatient setting, performing frequent blood draws, specimen processing, and packaging for shipment to a nearby medical testing facility. The role combines clinical expertise with strong communication and organizational skills, and may include both stationary and float assignments across different sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws (venipuncture) and collect patient specimens accurately, typically 2530 times per day.
• Ensure all specimens are properly labeled, processed, and packaged according to established procedures and safety standards.
• Apply knowledge of the correct order of draw and BD Vacutainer tube color sequence for multiple tube collections.
• Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule blood draws based on patient and clinic needs.
• Coordinate and schedule specimen pick-ups and shipping to the designated medical testing locations in Novi and Farmington.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to specimen collection, processing, and shipment.
• Follow all clinic protocols and guidelines to ensure patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality during blood draws.
• Collaborate with onsite and offsite team members to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care.
• Adhere to work schedules without requesting time off during the first 90 days of employment.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant, including drawing, processing, and packaging blood samples.
• Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or completion of a relevant certificate program.
• Demonstrated experience performing at least 200 solo blood draws.
• Proficiency in venipuncture, specimen collection, specimen processing, and blood draw techniques.
• Clear understanding of the order of draw for blood collection and the BD Vacutainer tube color sequence for multiple tube collections.
• Ability to accurately describe and apply the correct order of draw and tube colors during specimen collection.
• High School Diploma or equivalent education.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures for processing and packaging specimens.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and logistics partners.
• Reliability and availability with no planned time off in the next 90 days.

• Experience working in outpatient clinical settings.
• Comfort working both in stationary roles and in float positions across multiple sites.
• Ability to work independently and as part of small teams ranging from 03 colleagues at offsite locations.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple blood draws, processing tasks, and shipment schedules.
• Commitment to maintaining patient comfort and professionalism during all interactions.
• Interest in gaining extensive hands-on phlebotomy experience with opportunities for growth, including performance-based raises at 6 months.

Work Environment

This role is based primarily at 17800 Newburgh Rd. in Livonia, with responsibilities connected to medical testing sites in Novi and Farmington. The regular schedule is Monday through Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The team typically wears navy blue scrubs as standard attire. At the main Farmington site, there are about 15 people onsite, while offsite locations may have between 02 other team members, and offsite assignments may involve working with teams of 03 people depending on location. The environment is an outpatient clinical setting that emphasizes efficient specimen collection, processing, and shipping, with a mix of stationary and float opportunities and a supportive culture that offers raises after six months.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livonia, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
