Underwriting Intern

Tokio Marine HCC – Surety Group, a member of the Tokio Marine Group of Companies, offers a Summer 2026 Underwriting Internship at our Sacramento office. The internship is intended for college students who want to apply their academic studies to real‑world underwriting experience working alongside surety contract and commercial underwriters. Position Overview The Intern will learn surety underwriting concepts while providing administrative support to our team of underwriters. Performance Objectives Data Entry: Enter and verify information on proprietary software and databases. Underwriter Support: Accurately set up files within expected timeframes, adhere to established standards, and gather financial information. Finance: Learn preliminary credit and financial analysis and verify credit information. Broker Communication: Handle billing and process status inquiries. Expectations Become familiar with TMHCC Surety Group and its operations. Understand file procedures, underwriting terms, and data sources. Understand TMHCC Surety Group operational systems. Accurately and efficiently set up files, enter data, and accomplish other tasks to support our underwriters. Increase skills and interest for a career in surety underwriting. Requirements Currently working toward a bachelor’s degree or a recent enrollee in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, or equivalent education/experience. 60 units of general college coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Ability to work consecutive weeks throughout the summer. Demonstrated leadership capabilities. Good organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Good written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy. Initiative and active contributor in extracurricular activities. Motivation to succeed. Willingness to travel to Los Angeles for training; home office for training as needed. Benefits and Compensation The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package. For candidates working in person in Sacramento, the reasonable pay range is $17.74 to $24.41 per hour.
