Job Summary Performs highly complex parole administration and supervision work. Work involves reviewing and approving parole supervision activities, parole investigations, parole release plans and reports; coordinating case assignments; conducting case analyses; and supervising the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Key Responsibilities Plan, schedule, and supervise parole officer activities; coordinate parole supervision activities with other units, departments, and entities; and assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures. Visit offender residences, jails, correctional facilities, courthouses, social services, and other agencies to obtain offender information, coordinate parole investigations, and resolve problems. Conduct and supervise activities to monitor offender compliance with the conditions of supervision, including alcohol and drug testing. Perform criminal information searches and retrieval using Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history system access. Supervise the work of others; provide training to parole officers; review and evaluate documentation and recommendations; counsel parole officers and offenders on difficult cases. Perform a variety of marginal duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Major coursework in Criminal Justice, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred. Three years of experience may substitute for up to twenty-two semester hours with a maximum of two years substitution. Experience: Three years full‑time, wage‑earning experience in criminal justice, case management, case processing, or military roles. Parole officer experience preferred. Skills: Technical review or program evaluation experience, teaching, training, or staff development experience preferred. Licensing: Must have a valid Texas driver license and maintain eligibility for Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) and Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) access. Must obtain a certificate of completion for TLETS policy and procedures training within six months of employment. Knowledge and Skills Principles of criminology and penology. Principles, methods, techniques, and practices of parole case management. Psychological concepts of behavior, social adjustment, and emotional stability. Applicable laws, rules, regulations, and statutes regarding pardons and paroles. Clear and concise communication; coordination with staff and agencies; review of technical data; problem‑solving; interviewing and counseling offenders; evaluating offender adjustment; investigative skills; public addressing; training and supervising others. Additional Requirements Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach, grasp, pull, bend, identify colors, see, write, count, read, speak, and operate motor vehicle and equipment; lift and carry under 15 lbs.; perceive depth. Work conditions include working inside and around machines with moving parts; exposure to radiant and electrical energy; chemicals used for urinalysis; working closely with others, alone, protracted or irregular hours; traveling by car, van, bus, or airplane. Equipment used: computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, urinalysis equipment, firearms, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
