Electrical Test Technician

Join a Prototype & Build team as an Electrical Test Technician, where you will play a hands-on role in developing, testing, and validating advanced energy storage products. You will help build and maintain the electrical test infrastructure that enables safe, reliable evaluation of PCBAs, battery cells, modules, and system-level hardware. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented technician who thrives in a lab and manufacturing environment and enjoys control panel wiring, harness fabrication, and PCBA assembly.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and wire industrial control panels in accordance with UL508A standards.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and mechanical drawings to guide builds and troubleshooting.
• Fabricate complex wire harnesses and cable assemblies to support prototypes, test fixtures, and system integration.
• Perform crimping, routing, labeling, and continuity verification on wiring and cable harnesses.
• Assemble, rework, and repair PCBAs, including through-hole and surface-mount components.
• Execute fine-pitch SMD hand-soldering and hot-air rework, and perform detailed inspection using microscopes and rework tools.
• Support prototype bring-up and troubleshooting in close collaboration with electrical engineers and test engineers.
• Construct and maintain electrical test fixtures, load boxes, wiring assemblies, and custom hardware used to characterize and validate battery cells, modules, and electronic subsystems.
• Install instrumentation, sensors, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and safety interlocks as needed for test setups.
• Support test engineers and product engineers in setting up and executing electrical tests, including high-voltage testing where applicable.
• Assemble, organize, and inspect test infrastructure electrical subassemblies and integrated test systems to ensure quality and reliability.
• Use and maintain electrical build tooling in a shared workspace, ensuring tools and equipment remain in good working condition.
• Commission and troubleshoot completed test infrastructure systems and confirm initial mechanical functionality, including validating performance using associated sensor readings in collaboration with commissioning and engineering teams.
• Document findings, test results, and performance metrics to ensure traceability and support continuous improvement.
• Offer recommendations for keeping technical documentation, schematics, and build instructions up to date and accurate.
• Identify and report bugs, issues, and anomalies discovered during testing and commissioning activities.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience as an engineering technician, electrical technician, panel builder, or in a similar role.
• At least 3+ years of experience in electrical wiring, cable harness fabrication, and panel assembly.
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in soldering (SMD and through-hole) and PCBA assembly.
• Strong proficiency in electrical wiring, cable harness fabrication, and industrial control panel assembly.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and mechanical drawings.
• Demonstrated skill in fine-pitch SMD hand-soldering, hot-air rework, and detailed inspection using microscopes and rework tools.
• Experience working with industrial control panels or UL508A-compliant builds.
• Familiarity with standard electrical tools, test equipment, and safety practices, including DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and related instruments.
• Hands-on experience with electrical testing, troubleshooting, repair, and assembly of electronic systems.
• Comfort working with high-voltage systems while following appropriate safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting prototype bring-up, system integration, and collaboration with electrical and test engineers.
• Experience in building and maintaining electrical test fixtures, load boxes, and custom test hardware for battery cells, modules, and electronic subsystems.
• Ability to install and integrate instrumentation, sensors, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and safety interlocks into test setups.
• Experience with documentation of test results, performance metrics, and bug reporting to ensure traceability and continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with blueprint reading and general electronics principles.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a lab and manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a lab and manufacturing facility located in the heart of Berkeley, within a highly diverse and intelligent team dedicated to advancing energy storage solutions. You will work closely with engineers and technicians in a hands-on environment that involves industrial control panels, test fixtures, and electronic assemblies. The facility temperature typically mirrors outdoor conditions, so you should be comfortable in a workshop-style setting. You will regularly use standard electrical tools and test equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering stations, microscopes, and rework tools in a shared workspace, following established safety practices and procedures.

This is a Contract position based out of Berkeley, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $44.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
