Commercial Credit Underwriter

Job Description An analyst responsible for evaluating credit risk for commercial relationships of $2,500,000 and greater, assuming managerial responsibilities when the Credit Analysis Manager is absent. Responsibilities Conduct thorough analysis of financial statements and assessment of credit requests on complex commercial credit relationships of $2,500,000 and greater. Keep up to date with the company’s lending protocols. Effectively manage competing deadlines for projects in a high‑pressure work environment, with varying degrees of supervision and a working knowledge of accounting principles and financial techniques. Perform research skills required to evaluate borrowers. Apply strong problem‑solving, mathematical, and analytical skills to credit assessments. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Maintain confidentiality of credit information. Use computers and software for statistical and financial calculations. Create and review financial reports and statements. Maintain strong attention to detail and identify discrepancies in data. Understand financial statements, ratios, and concepts comprehensively. Be self‑motivated, a team player, and possess a strong work ethic. Perform loan reviews and annual reviews on selected borrowers and guarantors for commercial credit relationships of $2,500,000 and greater. Analyze cash flows, perform financial credit analysis, valuation of collateral, and evaluate global cash flows for commercial borrowers and guarantors. Accompany relationship managers on customer calls and site visits of potential and existing customers as needed. Maintain credit files by uploading information in a timely manner. Identify policy, collateral, and missing document exceptions. Assess strengths and weaknesses of the relationship. Research and summarize industry information for potential and existing customers. Run credit bureaus and background checks for potential and existing commercial customers and guarantors to evaluate credit worthiness and/or fraud. Prepare spreadsheets of financial statements and tax returns for potential and existing commercial customers and guarantors. Assist relationship managers in structuring credits, assessing covenants, and monitoring procedures. Train and develop new relationship managers on the credit analysis process. Train, develop, and mentor new credit analysts and the CDP analyst on underwriting and processes. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Supervise employees of the Credit Analysis Department in the manager’s absence, principally in remote markets. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; Accounting or Finance degree preferred. Five to eight years of credit analysis experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to perform essential duties, including analysis, research, and supervision. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
