Psychiatrist Position at Manhattan Psychiatric Center

Manhattan Psychiatric Center (MPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists for their inpatient Admissions Units. The Admissions Units serve as the hospital's entry point for new patients. Patients are transferred from acute care hospitals, correctional facilities, and the emergency department or the community. The goals of these units are targeted towards stabilization of acute symptoms, diagnostic clarification, and determination of the most appropriate level of care and discharge disposition.

As a Psychiatrist at MPC, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered, and recovery-focused treatments to individuals with mental health symptoms 18 years of age or older; including:

• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
• Overseeing an average caseload of 8 - 13 individuals
• Creating treatment plans including medication management
• Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed
• Providing individual and group psychotherapy
• Leading a weekly medication education group
• Managing acute crises

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

• Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
• Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
• OR
• Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Background checks will be required. This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.

If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.
• If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
• License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
