Teacher Quality Specialist
The job of Teacher Quality Specialist is to plan high-quality face-to-face and online professional development that improves student achievement, mentor and coach teachers to retain effective staff, and assist with state and federal documentation requirements.
Requirements:
1. Educational Level: Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
2. Certification/License: Valid Professional Georgia Teacher certification, related training and experience
3. Experience/Equivalency: Minimum of three years job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility. Considerable teaching experience as well as extensive knowledge and experience in professional development. Experience in teacher development and e-learning platforms preferred.
4. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions for the job include: knowledge of state professional learning provisions as they relate to teacher qualifications, Georgia certification process and effective teaching practices; thorough knowledge of the most promising high-yield strategies to enhance student learning, adult learning theory and competency acquisition process, and the latest research relative to universal design in educational practices and inclusion. Working knowledge of the Multi-Tier System of Supports and Positive Behavior Intervention Support Model. Skills are required to perform multiple technical tasks and to meet district, state, and federal guidelines, with occasional need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job include using the e-learning platform (LMS/Canvas) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint, and PowerPoint). Ability is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to work with data using defined but varied processes; and to operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide range of individuals, handle a variety of data, and use job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: demonstrated abilities in enhancing the professional development of others as well as in coaching and mentoring to improve practice and learning outcomes; ability to work collaboratively with administrators, Human Resources, and outside teacher preparation programs; maintaining confidentiality and meeting deadlines and schedules. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities and set goals; face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Ability to work with both internal and external contacts and with the public.
Essential Duties:
1. Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met.
2. Assists and provides support to administrators and academic coaches with interventions for teachers identified with a performance issue for the purpose of developing effective teachers and addressing teacher retention.
3. Assists the Division of Teaching and Learning to develop and maintain an online professional learning system for the purpose of addressing the training needs of the district.
4. Collaborates with Content Specialists to analyze the instructional program and curriculum for the purpose of improving identified areas of student strengths and weaknesses and continued enhancement of student performance.
5. Collaborates with internal and external personnel (ex. school administrators, teachers, public agencies, community members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
6. Facilitates meetings, workshops, seminars, etc. (ex. regulatory requirements, actions involving outside agencies, inter-district needs, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a district representative to include: Best Practice Workshops, Teacher Leader Academy, New Teacher Orientation.
7. Maintains Induction Audit documentation for the purpose of meeting compliance requirements, providing audit references, and/or providing support material for requested actions.
8. Plans and facilitates training opportunities for teachers as identified by need (GaLEADS, formal and informal observations) for the purpose of ensuring highly effective instructional staff are maintained in each region.
9. Provides extensive, responsible leadership in the provision of professional development, mentoring, and coaching for exemplary practices for the purpose of enhancing student learning.
10. Provides support and assistance to teachers and administrators for the purpose of ensuring highly effective instructional staff are maintained in each region.
11. Provides support/mentoring to Academic Coaches, Teacher Support Coaches, mentors and induction teachers for the purpose of developing effective teachers and addressing teacher retention.
12. Provides assistance to schools to improve student achievement by facilitating development activities pertaining to the Multi-Tier System of Supports, addressing the needs of diverse learners, inclusionary practices, and high-yield strategies consistent with the latest research from the exceptional student education, general education, and neuroscience communities for the purpose of ensuring student success.
13. Trains district and region staff on the creation and oversight of online modules for the purpose of supporting instructional staff development and ensuring highly qualified staff are maintained.
14. Works closely with content directors in implementing district initiatives (e.g., Lesson Study, Close Reading, Professional Learning Communities (PLC), Formative Instruction Practices (FIP), etc.) for the purpose of supporting student success.
15. Works closely with district, school-based administrators, and teachers to enhance practices for the purpose of supporting student success.
16. Researches a variety of topics (e.g., courses, materials, training consultants, etc.) for the purpose of meeting staff training needs by developing new programs and services.
17. Performs other Title II-A related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of professional learning. This position is funded 100% by Title II-A funds.
