Qualifications:

1. Eligibility for Professional Certification for School Nurse:

1. Hold a bachelor's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

1. Hold a valid Registered Nurse license for the state of West Virginia.

1. Complete the required school nurse certification program.

Salary: WV State Scale depending on degree level and experience


Term: 200 days


Location: Itinerant


Responsible to: Principal and Director of Curriculum


Job Description:

1. Collaborate with district leadership and principals to provide leadership for school health at the local school level that meets the needs of students in the school.

1. Deliver school-based health services at the school level.

1. Conduct applicable health screenings.

1. Collaborate with county level health officials and health care agencies to promote wellness at the school.

1. Complete required documentation and maintain accurate records.

1. Implement follow-up services to ensure maintained health.

1. Maintain patient confidentiality as prescribed by law.

1. Provide individual healthcare services for students and staff.

1. Assist with medical clinics.

1. Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases by assessment, referral, and follow-up measures.

1. Counsel parents and students with pertinent information regarding health needs.

1. Provide emergency and first aid care as appropriate.

1. Assess immunization status of students entering Summers County Schools and provide required reports to applicable agencies.

1. Complete health assessments as directed by various Summers County Schools departments.

1. Obtain health information as required by state law, Summers County Board of Education, and West Virginia Board of Education Policy.

1. Maintain professional work habits.

1. Regularly upgrade works skills.

1. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or supervisor.
