We are seeking a Surgical Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a specialized surgical practice in Dallas, Texas focused on the care and treatment of patients with Tarlov cysts .

This full-time position combines OR surgical support, pre-operative planning, post-operative patient care, and outpatient clinic responsibilities . The provider will work closely with the surgeon during surgical procedures, assist with pre- and post-operative care, participate in office consultations, review diagnostic imaging, and provide ongoing patient support.

Responsibilities
Pre-Operative & Surgical Responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive patient health histories and document current physical conditions.
• Conduct pre-operative planning by reviewing patient charts.
• Verify that appropriate time is allocated for each scheduled surgical case.
• Ensure all necessary surgical resources are available prior to procedures.
• Coordinate with case representatives and ensure appropriate staff are scheduled.
• Verify appropriate surgical equipment is available.
• Confirm cases are scheduled correctly.
• Review required labs, diagnostic tests, and medical clearances prior to surgery.
• Assist the surgeon during OR procedures.
• Work with micro-instrumentation in a surgical environment.
• Perform surgical assistance while working under a microscope as required.

Post-Operative & Patient Care Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient transitions between healthcare settings, including hospital admission, pre-op, transfer, recovery, and discharge.
• Round on post-surgical patients during the week and, when requested by the physician, on weekends.
• Manage a relatively small post-operative patient population.
• Follow up with patients after Tarlov cyst surgery to assess medical status.
• Conduct pre- and post-operative patient follow-up.
• Counsel patients regarding treatment plans.
• Assist patients with accessing appropriate community resources when needed.
• Monitor all aspects of patient care.

Clinic Responsibilities

• Assist the physician during outpatient clinic days.
• Participate in in-person patient consultations and post-operative follow-up visits.
• Prepare patients for examinations and treatments.
• Prepare equipment and assist the physician during examinations.
• Participate in patient evaluations and treatment planning.
• Provide phone consultations and respond to patient calls.
• Triage patients telephonically and provide clinical support as appropriate.
• Consult with the physician when additional clinical direction is needed.

Diagnostic & Clinical Responsibilities

• Order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests as appropriate.
• Review and track MRI, CT, and X-ray results.
• Contact patients regarding diagnostic imaging results.
• Assist with monitoring and reviewing diagnostic testing.
• Analyze patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic information.
• Develop appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Diagnose and treat acute healthcare conditions such as illnesses, infections, and injuries.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient response and clinical condition.
• Recommend appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
• Educate patients regarding self-management of acute and chronic conditions.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records, treatment plans, and prognoses.

Requirements

• NP or PA qualification appropriate for the role.
• Texas medical license required.
• 3+ years of Surgical Assistant experience.
• Neurosurgery and/or Orthopedic Spine experience required.
• Experience working with micro-instrumentation .
• Experience performing surgical work under a microscope .
• Experience with MRI imaging interpretation/review .
• Strong pre-operative and post-operative patient care experience.
• Strong communication and patient management skills.
• Ability to work closely with surgeons and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
• Ability to participate in an after-hours telephone call rotation .

Additional NP-Specific Requirement

• For Nurse Practitioners , OR certification such as RNFA or CNOR is required .

Experience Requirements
