Job Title: CNC Setup Machinist Job Description

We are seeking a CNC Setup Machinist to perform advanced machine setups, write and modify CNC programs, and operate CNC machines to produce precision machined parts. You will be responsible for setting up machines for production runs, optimizing programs, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring high-quality machined components. This role requires strong technical expertise, CNC programming skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Set up, load, and operate CNC machines according to job specifications.

• Perform complex machine setups for production runs and set up fixturing using standard fixture hardware.

• Design custom fixtures for specialized machining operations and calibrate machines to verify setup accuracy before production.

• Operate equipment and monitor production to ensure quality and efficiency, performing first article inspections and verifying dimensional accuracy.

• Write and modify CNC programs using G-code or CAM software.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate machining.

• Optimize cutting parameters, feed rates, and tool paths to improve cycle times.

• Troubleshoot programming errors and make real-time adjustments.

• Monitor machine operations to detect and address any issues or deviations.

• Identify and resolve quality problems related to setup and operation.

• Make real-time adjustments to programs and machine parameters.

• Conduct quality checks and measurements to ensure parts meet required specifications.

• Verify parts meet engineering drawings and GD&T specifications using precision measuring equipment.

• Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.

• Provide guidance to CNC Operators on machine operation and troubleshooting.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of CNC machining experience.

• Strong technical problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.

• Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

• Ability to work independently with a high attention to detail.

• Advanced knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

• Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, ESPRIT, or similar).

• Experience with multiple CNC machine types (mills, lathes, multi-axis).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Technical certification or associate degree in machining or related field.

• Experience in contract manufacturing or high-mix production environments.

• Knowledge of fixture design and tooling optimization.

• Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing training.

• Forklift certification.

• Experience with 3-5 axis and horizontal machining.

Work Environment

The work environment is a specialized internal service focused on producing high-quality components through additive manufacturing, CNC machining, and more. The facility supports design engineers, product developers, and other teams across various sectors. The shift is days from 6:15 AM to 2:45 PM.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
