We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse with a strong background in Neuro Critical Care to join our team in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This role is crucial for providing high-quality care to patients with neurological conditions.

Job Details

• Unit: Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Experience Required: 2 years of Neuro ICU experience is mandatory; general ICU experience is not sufficient.
• Traveler Experience: Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Shift: Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45 - 07:15)
• Patient Ratios: Normally 2:1, can flex to 3:1 in high census situations.
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse in the Neuro ICU, your responsibilities will include:

• Administering patient care for individuals with acute neurological conditions.
• Monitoring and interpreting vital signs and neurological assessments.
• Managing patients on ventilators and performing arterial line management.
• Providing continuous IV sedation and conducting neurological assessments.
• Caring for patients post-neurosurgery and managing external ventricular drains (EVD) and lumbar drains.
• Implementing isolation precautions and adhering to infection control protocols.

Required Skills and Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Strong neuro critical care background with at least 2 years of experience in a Neuro ICU setting.
• Experience with CVA/acute stroke management and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
• Proficiency in blood product administration and central line care/management.

Patient Population

Our Neuro ICU specializes in the management of the following conditions:

• Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH)
• Subdural hematomas (SDH)
• Craniotomies and carotid procedures
• Aneurysm coiling/clipping
• Seizures and myasthenia gravis management

Work Environment

The Neuro ICU is a comprehensive stroke center equipped with the latest technology for patient monitoring and care. The interdisciplinary team includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams.

Orientation

Orientation for this position lasts 24 hours and is designed to familiarize the nurse with the unit protocols and practices.
