Head Coach Debate Team (Jefferson Houston MS) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description The Head Coach organizes, coordinates and promotes a comprehensive athletic program that is designed to: Meet the needs and interests of the school community Provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and stress the importance of academic achievement Demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations, and serve as a positive role model for all students This position reports to the Middle School Sports Coordinator. The stipend for this role is $500 to $1,500. Qualifications ACPS staff preferred Knowledge and background in assigned sport Previous coaching experience in assigned sport is desirable Essential Functions Instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success Instruct participants on personal hygiene and safety procedures and encourage reporting injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately Inform students of the insurance program available through the Alexandria City Public Schools Provide all students involved in the program a safe environment through adequate supervision Compile and maintain accurate individual and team performance records Issue, collect, inventory, and store equipment, and provide accurate records of equipment to the assistant Middle School Sports Coordinator Convey the policies of the team, local school and ACPS (e.g., regulations on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extracurricular Activities) to all participants Ensure compliance with rules, policies, and regulations of the Virginia High School League, regional and district councils, and ACPS Submit required forms to the Middle School Sports Coordinator (e.g., eligibility rosters, players’ addresses) to meet requirements of the Virginia High School League, the School Board, local school and ACPS Follow the School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies involving financial transactions Establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians Inform students about the athletic program and encourage their participation Handle public relations and convey information on the athletic program Implement appropriate procedures when handling injury situations Ensure availability of first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times Inspect facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions to ensure safety of participants Participate in professional growth activities Participate in award program(s) in adherence to school procedures Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Position Type Part‑Time Salary $500 to $1,500 (Off Scale) #J-18808-Ljbffr Young World Physical Education
