Physician Biller - Hybrid - 136267 at UC San Diego Health Overview The Physician Biller is responsible for the full range of billing duties within the revenue cycle from claim generation to final payment disposition. The Physician Biller monitors, prioritizes, and ensures assigned work for the billing of claims, resolution of edits, attaching of records, and all actions required to resolve open A/R in a timely manner according to departmental standards and performance metrics. The role works with internal customers and external business partners to ensure accurate and timely billing/resolution of claims for patients. This position is hybrid (onsite and remote) with onsite work three days a week at Greenwich Drive, San Diego, CA. Responsibilities Perform full-cycle medical billing duties from claim generation to final payment disposition. Monitor and prioritize billing queue; resolve edits and Unpaid/denied claims; attach necessary records. Communicate with internal departments and external partners to address all actions required for timely and accurate billing and account resolution. Ensure adherence to current departmental standards and performance metrics. Collaborate with team to support revenue cycle processes and improve payment outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of relevant experience in medical claims billing, denial mitigation, and appeals. One (1) year of recent experience processing and resolving claims in a medical billing environment. Extensive knowledge of medical insurance billing processes, billing documents, claim forms, HIPAA, PHI, and state/federal rules for billing and appealing medical claims. Knowledge of basic medical terminology, coding principles (CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10/modifiers) and accounting/cash handling procedures. Ability to read and interpret insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and payer communications to resolve outstanding bills. Customer-focused, detail-oriented, organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team; proficient with MS Office (Mail, Excel, Word); typing speed of at least 25 wpm. Prior Epic Resolute Professional Billing experience. Preferred Qualifications Some college coursework or an Associate Degree; Billing Certificate. Three (3) years of recent experience related to processing and resolving claims in a medical billing environment. Experience with CMS-1500 claim forms; ability to read medical records to support medical necessity based on diagnosis and services rendered. Ability to obtain payer information timely and prioritize workload by payer specifics. Ability to verify patient coverage/insurance adjudication via payer portals, Epic systems, or by phone.
