PRN Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider, Neonatology Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers (APP) are Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Physician Assistants (PA). The critical care APP is credentialed by the medical staff and functions within their scope of practice in their jurisdictional area and in accordance with organizational medical staff bylaws. They are responsible for providing evidenced‑based care for the management of patients, including assessment, implementation, and evaluation of a detailed plan of care, which incorporates diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The APP demonstrates competency in providing age‑appropriate care to patients as defined by certification and training and provides family‑centered care to meet family needs, including psychological support, education, and discharge planning in conjunction with other related disciplines. The critical care APP initiates, participates, and collaborates with critical care divisional and organizational multi‑disciplinary staff to provide and support evidence‑based education, quality improvement, and research. They participate in professional and organizational activities that contribute to improving patient care, the scientific knowledge base of advanced practice, program operation, and individual professional development. The critical care APP provides leadership within their respective clinical area through participation in division projects and mentorship of others. They contribute to department and organization‑wide initiatives, representing advanced practice and promoting the role of the advanced practice provider. Qualifications Minimum Education Master’s Degree Nurse Practitioner (or Master’s/Doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program) and eligibility for medical staff credentialing required. Master’s or Doctoral degree Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program and eligibility for medical staff credentialing required. Minimum Work Experience 0 years experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. Required Skills/Knowledge Strong knowledge of clinical specialty and services. Demonstrates clinical leadership skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required Licenses and Certifications Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Nurse Practitioner Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice. CDS in state(s) of clinical practice. DEA. Physician Assistant Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice. CDS in state(s) of clinical practice. DEA. Active national certification with NCCPA. BLS certification. Active national acute care certification (for NP) with governing body such as PNCB, ANCC, or AANPCB. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) (Required). Functional Accountabilities Clinical Assesses, diagnoses, and monitors clinical status of each patient utilizing evidence‑based practice and medical knowledge. Develops appropriate plan of care. Writes patient care orders, prescribes therapy, and provides necessary home care orders as needed. Identifies significant changes in patient status using physical exam, lab values, diagnostic tests, and patient/family input. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings. Performs procedures as needed after obtaining appropriate credentialing. Participates in and/or leads multidisciplinary patient care. Is a clinical resource for patient, parents and the interdisciplinary team. Appropriately communicates and escalates clinical/administrative issues. Collaborates with nursing, medicine and other members of the healthcare team to regularly ensure quality patient care. Administrative Serves as a clinical preceptor to NP, CNS or PA students. Acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues. Provides formal/informal educational presentation to staff on areas of expertise. Participates and leads quality improvement initiatives in their department. Organizational Commitment Partner in the mission and upholds the core principles of the organization. Demonstrates accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication. Actively promotes safety for patients, families, visitors and co‑workers. Attends carefully to important details—practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review to self‑check behavior and performance.
