Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years License: State license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years. Description: Mixed acuity unit for PCU, medical-surgical telemetry, and medical patients. Ratios adjusted by acuity. Accepting first-time travelers, but locals will not be considered. Scrubs must be solid color. Skills required include: Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias. Management of dysrhythmias, post-myocardial infarction, and IV insulin protocols. Titration of insulin drips and feeding tube care/management. Continuous bladder irrigation, renal failure management, and accessing ports. Blood product administration and central line care/management. Phlebotomy and peripheral line care/management. PICC line management and starting IVs. Heparin protocols and managing cardiac drips without titration. Patient-controlled analgesia and use of thrombolytic agents. Titration of cardiac drips, management of cerebrovascular accidents, and seizure disorders. Care for patients with substance withdrawal and orthopedic trauma. Management of peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements. Traction, mastectomy care, and chest tube management. Use of external CPAP/BiPAP and high flow nasal cannula. Interpretation of arterial blood gases and non-invasive airway management. Tracheostomy management and wound care including wound vac. Isolation precautions and general wound care responsibilities. Ratios in the unit are 1:3-5 for days and weekends and 1:3-7 for nights. Floating to corresponding sister units may be required. Weekend shifts are required every other week. Patient diagnoses include surgical pre-and post-operative care, ENT, general surgery, trauma surgery, and orthopedic surgery. There may be overflow medical diagnosis patients, with rare pediatric patients included. Travelers will not be assigned unless experienced. Preferred skills and certifications include PALS and TCAR. Preferred experience includes those who have worked in trauma level I and II facilities.
