Are You the Person Who Catches What Others Miss?Picture your first week at our Pittsburgh (EMD) facility: you’re on the floor, confirming a machine setup before the first cut, checking a fixture that holds a critical subassembly, and documenting a weld inspection—all before lunch. As a Precision Mechanical Inspection Specialist, your eye for detail and command of process keep quality at the center of everything we build.Your ImpactValidate machine setups with the right inspection devices to ensure processes start correctly.Check simple manufacturing tooling—cutting tools, assembly fixtures, machining fixtures—for suitability and compliance.Inspect weld characteristics and base materials using approved inspection equipment.Conduct liquid penetrant and visual inspections per ASNT SNT-TC-1A and NAVSEA-250-1500.Perform electrical checks on mechanisms for wound coil assemblies using megger, fluke, and HI-POT.Review process documentation to verify conformance with internal and external requirements.Inspect parts and subassemblies, confirm fit and assembly, and generate data for special machining when needed.Leverage computer proficiency for documentation review, labor/time reporting, digital photography, communications, and programs for computer-aided inspection equipment, plus other systems.Stay current on quality procedures and maintain inspection qualifications as specified by internal procedures and customer standards.Photograph products and processes to document evidence of quality.Assist with other inspection activities of equal or lesser complexity as required.What It TakesU.S. citizenship in line with DoD requirements.Eligibility to obtain and maintain DoD security clearances and approvals.Skill in reading machined-part blueprints and applying shop math (basic algebra and trigonometry).Minimum 1 year of inspection and/or machining experience.High school diploma or equivalent earned through mechanical training/experience.How We WorkThis is a union position.
