Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant Location: Cozad, NE Department: Rehab Reports to: Director of Rehab Position Type: Registered Nurse FT, PT, PRN Job Summary At Emerald Healthcare & Rehab Cozad, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides rehabilitative services under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to assist residents in improving functional abilities. This position assists with planning, organizing, developing, and directing Occupational Therapy Services in the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to ensure that highest degree of quality resident care. Occupational Therapy Assistant Responsibilities Deliver therapeutic activities according to the Occupational Therapist care plan. Monitor and report patient progress to the supervising Occupational Therapist. Maintain accurate documentation of daily treatments. Assist with ADL retraining, mobility, and cognitive stimulation. Prepare and clean the therapy area and equipment. Conduct regular screening of residents to figure out the best intervention or treatment for each individual patient based off scope of practice. Perform treatment plan to residents; follow short- and long-term goals and methods to achieve goals based off the established plan of care by supervising Occupational Therapist. Interpret and communicate evaluation findings, treatment plans, and recommendations to residents, families/caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members. Establish individual resident therapy schedules in cooperation with other team members. Conduct therapy according to established treatment plan and ensure proper documentation and billing of occupational therapy services. Perform all other duties as assigned and as required to effectively treat the residents. Comply with all CMS documentation standards of practice daily with point of care documentations as indicated. Always follow resident rights & abuse policies. Qualification Associate’s degree in occupational therapy required. Actively Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in the state of practice required. Graduation from an accredited OTA program. Valid state license/certification. Skilled Nursing Facility experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities In-depth knowledge of long-term care procedures and resident care. Great knowledge of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare. Excellent ability to lead and develop personnel. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to respond effectively. Ability to perform work safely. Strong organizational and communication skills. Proficient computer skills. Physical/Emotional/Mental Demands Sit moderately, stand and walk frequently. Push, pull and reach above shoulder, squat, crouch, bend, kneel, and crawl frequently. Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Frequently lift up to 10 lbs. Use hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to hazardous chemicals such as disinfectants, cleaners, soap, etc. Exposure to latex gloves and other personal protective equipment. Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids as required providing resident care. Occasional exposure to microbial bacteria and other infectious agents inherent to care for older adults.
