Reports To: Senior Shop Worker / Shop Supervisor
Location: Cleveland, West side
Employment Type: Full-time, 8:00am – 4:40pm

Position Summary:

The General Shop Assistant supports daily operations in a light manufacturing environment by performing a variety of hands-on tasks under the direction of senior shop workers and supervisors. This role involves preparing metal components for finishing, assisting with machining operations, preparing completed machinery for shipment, producing and reconditioning company’s proprietary circular cutting blades through a defined process.  The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of safely operating shop tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Material Preparation:
• • Prepare metal machinery frames for painting, including deburring, degreasing, and cleaning.
  • Cut metal and other materials to specified lengths using saws or other cutting equipment.
• Machining Support:
• • Drill and tap holes according to drawings or supervisor direction.
  • Assist in operating machine tools such as metal lathes, milling machines, band saws, and drill presses.
  • Perform basic machine setup, measurement, and quality checks under supervision.
• Assembly & Finishing:
• • Assemble and fit components as directed.
  • Palletize, secure, and plastic wrap completed machinery for shipment.
• General Shop Duties:
• • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all safety policies and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with general shop maintenance and material handling tasks as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical training a plus).
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to read simple drawings or instructions.
• Experience using basic hand tools and shop equipment (preferred but not required).
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 and stand for extended periods.
