Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs region, requiring 2 years of MS-Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile zone.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting with no single home base facility — travelers float across multiple facilities within Zone 1 (Colorado Springs, CO area), which includes Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
• Float pool covers a broad range of MS-Tele units including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
• Patient population consists of adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 based on acuity
• May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
• RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is present on units
• Charting is done in Epic
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p–7a)
• 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• Schedule is set by leadership on a 6-week rotation; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill scheduling gaps
• Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and may follow either a set facility assignment for the week or a Just-In-Time (JIT) format where the facility is assigned 1–2 hours before shift start
• Low-census standby/call is rare
• Holiday rotation participation may be required

Requirements

• Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of MS-Tele RN experience required
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Prior neuro nursing experience preferred
• Candidate's permanent address must be at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the zone's geographic center) to qualify for this position
• A valid driver's license is required
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• This is a true float pool role with no home base facility — travelers must secure housing that allows them to reach any facility within the full 60-mile zone
• Facilities within Zone 1 range from 7 to 46 miles from the Colorado Springs city center, spanning into Pueblo and Cañon City
• Each unit has a designated charge nurse who typically does not carry a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may take a small assignment when needed; nurse aides are available on units
• All time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment begins
• Clinicians must be physically present in the state of Colorado for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
