Facilities Manager

Facilities Manager Based at Rocket Lab Optical Systems' headquarters in Tucson, AZ, the Facilities Manager is responsible for facilities maintenance, operations, and improvement projects for our Tucson and Chantilly facilities. The role also encompasses maintenance and capital expense planning for equipment, supporting the General Manager with business operational budgets, and reducing expenditures. Responsibilities Utilize internal and external resources to manage facility operations, including janitorial, maintenance, repair, and upgrade activities. Support major facility renovations and construction projects to ensure timely execution. Develop maintenance policies and procedures for buildings, grounds, and associated equipment. Plan, schedule, and manage all building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Lead facilities modification and improvement projects with a focus on scope, schedule, and budget. Manage and train a staff of employees in general building, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Ensure maintenance work follows safety standards, conforms to specifications, and is tracked and completed within budgeted guidelines. Collaborate with staff in day‑to‑day performance of jobs. Maintain project milestones and adherence to approved budgets. Manage the breakdown ticketing system (JIRA) and set priorities for resolution. Supervise hazardous waste handling in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Oversee Equipment Engineering budgets, including maintenance, repair, upgrade, procurement, installation, and decommissioning activities. Implement and manage the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Ensure adherence to site safety, security, and cleanliness requirements. Travel as required and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience – or High School Diploma and 12 years of experience. 3+ years of supervisory/management experience. Facilities management and equipment maintenance experience in a heavily regulated manufacturing environment (aerospace, automotive, medical device, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Experience managing cleanrooms. Expert knowledge of facilities systems and improvement projects. Occupational health & safety skills, including risk assessment, policy, training, project management, hazardous substances, and safety in manufacturing engineering. Knowledge and practical experience in emergency management and/or occupational health and workplace hygiene. Additional Requirements Work in environments with electrical hazards, chemical exposure, temperature variations, and noise. Wear required PPE, which may include safety glasses, gloves, respirators, and other protective clothing. Move between buildings, labs, and work areas as needed. Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 25 lbs. unassisted. Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and varied shifts as operational needs require.
