Senior Ontologist, Biologics Discovery

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Senior Ontologist to design and govern semantic models for biologics discovery data across antibodies, proteins, assays, and sequences. This cross-functional role transforms complex scientific terminology into reusable ontologies and controlled vocabularies that enable data interoperability, knowledge graphs, and AI-ready analytics across discovery teams and manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and release ontology modules and controlled vocabularies for biologics discovery domains
• Partner with domain experts to capture scientific concepts and translate them into structured semantic models
• Embed semantic layers into data pipelines and knowledge graph platforms with data engineering teams
• Establish and maintain semantic standards and governance practices adopted across discovery data products
• Align biologics ontologies with enterprise standards and collaborate with CMC peer ontologists on molecule lifecycle alignment

Requirements

• Expertise in ontology design, OWL/RDF, SKOS vocabularies, and SHACL constraints
• Experience building and publishing semantic models for scientific or biotech data systems
• Strong ability to elicit and translate domain expertise from subject matter experts into computable models
• Familiarity with knowledge graphs, data governance, and enterprise semantic standards
• Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration with biologists, data engineers, and IT teams
• Understanding of biologics discovery workflows, antibody/protein engineering, or assay design preferred
