Duties

Help

You will serve as an Inventory Management Specialist and be responsible for maintaining, ordering, and positioning material in support of the program for a category materials. The primary purpose of the position is to manage inventory items.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Planning, expediting, forecasting, coordinating, analyzing, resolving and reporting on all supply involvements pertaining to material or systems managed.
• Developing and managing a budget for procurement of material and services in support of managed items.
• Initiating procurement actions for the purchase and/or repair of components or parts based on demand history, stock position, reorder points and lead-time.
• Reviewing reports and determining if quantities of items procured support all assigned materials under conditions of drastically varying lead times, and frequent changes between government and commercial sources.
• Coordinating with Engineering personnel to initiate action to identify a source or develop new sources for problem items or no quote from vendors.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Applicants may also qualify at the GS-09 grade level by successful completion of a Master's or equivalent degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B or J.D., if related, from an accredited college or university.

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

• Resolving a variety of inventory management problems, inquiries, or situations.
• Analyzing and testing inventory management techniques and methods to arrive at solutions and recommendations.
• Establishing lead times for ordering and staging of material.
• Tracking and adjusting inventory levels to meet inventory demand.

NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Applicants may also qualify at the GS-11 grade level by successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related, from an accredited college or university.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
