The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using GameStop’s buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and a shared passion for gaming. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions or concerns quickly and courteously, assist with meeting their gaming needs, inform about special promotions, recommend additional items, and apply all selling behaviors during every transaction. Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business. Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the Point‑of‑Sale (POS) system, ensuring correct pricing, bagging merchandise, and providing receipts. Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, escalade issues to the Store Manager when appropriate. Promote GameStop’s guest benefits such as title reservations, trade‑in, and Pro Rewards. Assist with setting guest service expectations for store associates and train associates on company and store policies and procedures. Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback to the Store Manager, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed. Provide timely recognition and feedback to all store associates, recording written feedback in Workday / HR service management system. Ensure store associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training prior to opening or closing a shift. In partnership with the Store Manager, schedule store associates, supervise staffing levels, and ensure best‑in‑class guest service. Approve payroll, enter paid time off, and verify store associates are paid for all time worked. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and merchandising of all store areas, ensuring fixtures and equipment are in proper working order. Fulfil and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily. Exercise effective inventory control and loss prevention practices, including scam awareness and safety best practices. Support the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals and completing required administrative and operational duties. Perform store inventory counts and restock merchandise, ensuring all products are represented, organized, and alphabetized. Reconcile daily business transaction totals, complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits accurately. Verify shipments for discrepancies or shortages, record discrepancies, and communicate to Store Manager or District Manager. Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls accurately and promptly. Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety, identify hazardous situations, and report injuries promptly. Assist in maintaining store records and manuals in a neat, organized manner. Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders when the Store Manager is absent. Adhere consistently to GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct. Adhere to all opening and closing procedures. Qualifications Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States. Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or accredited bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred. At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred. At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred. Video game knowledge preferred. Key Job Skills and Abilities Outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills. Provide genuine and individualized assistance to every guest during every visit. Demonstrate clear verbal, written, and listening skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Achieve objectives in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment. Work independently and within a team to perform all tasks timely. Meet associate performance expectations, including attendance, appearance, safety, and respectful workplace. Possess basic mathematics and alphabetizing skills. Complete required paperwork properly. Carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Execute financial tasks in strict accordance with company policy. Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays; available at least 3 days a week. Constructively manage pressure and adapt to stressful situations. Be reliable, trustworthy, and use good judgment. Work alone, stand, and move throughout the store unassisted for up to 12 hours a day. Lift merchandise up to 30 lbs. from ground level to minimum height of 4 feet and perform other basic physical tasks. Possess or acquire a working understanding of military ranks and related insignia (applicable to military base locations).
